TUESDAY'S LEGENDS ... DARREN DOYE
One of 775's most popular artists, Darren Doye, will hold his first solo
exhibition at the gallery, opening Easter Saturday. Darren's keen interest in the Australian landscape and way of
life are themes constantly explored in his work. By combining well known
Melbourne icons such as the Nylex clock and the Skipping Girl Vinegar
neon sign, Darren invites the viewer on a journey of recognisable
Melbourne landmarks. He often uses a wall formation within his artwork,
encouraging the viewer to read and personalise the narrative, a little
like a comic strip, to evoke feelings of nostalgia. Darren often places urban landmarks within a rural landscapes, paying
homage to the Artist's country roots. The inclusion of grass covered
paddocks alludes to the continuing urban sprawl and the implied
lifestyle of new housing estates on the urban fringes of Melbourne. This vibrant exhibition opens 2-5pm, April 3, showing evocative work
from an exceptional emerging artist.
